TYPE: Dragoon Red-on-Brown

DATE: A.D. 900 to 1100 (Tuthill, 1947;64)

BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Interiors

COMMON DESIGNS: Many designs look Mogollon, with a central star motif, while many other designs resemble Sedentary Period Hohokam styles.

KEY DIFFERENCES: Red designs are painted on either a plain polished background or a tan-brown slip. Bowl exteriors may have a red wash or light slip.

VARIETIES: Bowls may or may not have a tan-brown slipped interior and also may or may not have a thin red slipped exterior.

OTHER COMMON TYPES WITH SIMILAR DESIGN STYLES:

Mogollon - Three Circle Red-on-White

Hohokam - Rincon Red-on-White and Sacaton Red-on-Buff

COMMENTS: This period of Dragoon Ceramics seem to be a result of a marriage between Mogollon and Hohokam influences or religions.
