TYPE: Maverick Mountain Polychrome

DATE: A.D. 1275 to 1325 (Neuzil & Lyons 2005;37)

COMMON FORMS: Bowls, jars.

COMMON BACKGROUND COLORS: Orange to dark red.

BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Primary interior designs sometimes having secondary exterior designs.

COMMON DESIGNS: Broad black lines and solids as well as hatched triangles and panels usually outlined in white, sometimes having broad white lines on the exteriors of bowls, or below outlined designs on jars.

KEY DIFFERENCES: Maverick Mountain Polychrome incorporate thin black lines and/or hatching, whereas Tucson Polychrome usually has only wide black lines outlined in thin white lines.

3N Salado Maverick Mountain Polychrome Bowl.

The white paint on the exterior is a rare trait. The shape and interior design somewhat resembles Cliff Polychrome indicating that this vessel is likely to be a late example.

Not only is there a black design outlined in white, but there is also a white separate design painted below it.

If there wasn't any white paint on the exterior of this bowl, it would be clasified as Gila Black-on-Red.

Approximate Dimensions: 7 1/4" or 8.4 cm. by 3 5/8" or 9.2 cm.

If it wasn't for the white on the exterior, this bowl would be classified as Pinto Black-on-Red.

This redware bowl has an interior design reminesent of Wingate style of White Mountain Redware, and an exterior design reminesent of Saint Johns Polychrome of White Mountain Redware.

Approximate Dimensions: 5 7/8" or 15 cm. by 2 5/8" or 6.7 cm.
