TYPE: Salado Red Polychrome

DATE: 1200 to 1400 (see comments)

COMMON FORMS: Bowls.

COMMON BACKROUND COLORS: Light raspberry to dark red exteriors, black smudged interiors.

 

DESIGN PLACEMENT: Exteriors and interiors.

COMMON DESIGNS: Exterior designs are the same as Salado White-on-Red.  Interior designs are broad line red designs painted on the black smudged surface.  These broad line designs consists of lines, triangles, circles, and nested chevrons or V's.

COMMENTS: This type has not been formally described (new type). Dates are believed to be the same as Salado Red.

 

 

1Y Salado Red Polychrome Bowl with fine white line design on exterior and broad red line design with a quartered layout on interior.  This extremely rare type is the only example we are aware of.

Approximate Dimensions: 13" or 33 cm. by 6 3/8" or 16.2 cm.
