TYPE: Variant Kwakina Polychrome 

DATE: AD 1300 to 1400 (Lanmon & Harlow, 2008;63)


1Y This variant Kwakina Polychrome bowl shard (made of white paste) has an orange slipped base with white designs painted on a red slip around the upper portion of the exterior of the bowl. The interior has a red slipped band around the inner rim with red and black paints on a white slipped interior.  The red paint is faded but it  was a dark red matching the red slip color, the parrot body was red along with a red painted band in between two glaze bands just below the rim.  This vessel had three paint colors: white, red, and glaze black, and three slip colors: white, orange, and red.

Approximate Dimensions: 6 7/8" or 17.5 cm. by 3 5/8" or 9.2 cm.
